What is the difference between AI deblurring and just increasing sharpness in Photoshop?

Sharpening tools like Unsharp Mask increase contrast at edges — they do not recover lost information. They can make a photo look crisper at thumbnail size but create halos and artifacts when viewed at full resolution. AI deblurring attempts to reverse the mathematical process that caused the blur, which recovers actual spatial resolution rather than just perceived edge contrast. How blurry is too blurry? When can't AI fix a photo?

The practical limit is when no recognizable features remain — when a face is so blurred that even a human cannot identify it as a face.
